Biography

Cullen Bingeman is a Winnipeg based, Treaty 1 Territory artist and educator who holds a BFA from the University of Manitoba School of Art and an MFA in Drawing and Painting from NSCAD University. His abstract works on paper, which range in scale from the intimate to monumental, investigate the interplay between landscape, memory, and tacit knowledge - the unspoken, bodily understanding that guides our interaction with the world.

Working primarily with ink, graphite and charcoal, Cullen employs a process that builds up, erodes, magnifies, and manipulates marks creating layered fields that can feel both geological and mnemonic. His drawings and prints, though often individual explorations, are conceived as parts of a larger, interconnected whole, each piece contributing to a continuous meditation on place and perception.

Cullen has Exhibited his works in numerous group exhibitions throughout Manitoba and Nova Scotia engaging with the artistic communities of both his educational and professional homes. His ongoing practice continues to probe the limits of materiality and mark making as a way of mapping cognitive experience.
